Jacqui Cyrus, born and raised in San Francisco, CA, is now the Instructional Technologist for the School of Education at the University of Guam. She teaches and does research in 4 areas: (1) Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), (2) Instructional Technology (IT), (3) Assistive and Adaptive Technology (AT), and Information Literacy (IL). Her students are primarily teachers -- both pre-service (student teachers) and in-service (practicing teachers). Her teaching and recent publications emphasize how to incorporate education technology into the P-12 content curriculum.

Her first Master's degree is in TESOL where she developed an interest in CALL (computer-assisted language learning) and CAELL (computer-assisted English language learning). Her second Master's degree is in computer-assisted instruction. Her doctorate is in instructional technology from Texas Tech University.

Her classes are taught via the course management system MOODLEROOMS. Students are introduced to 5 technology tools for course management purposes: MOODLE, del.icio.us, Google Interactive Apps, Blogger, and Firefox. In addition, students are introduced to 9 - 12 Web 2.0 technology tools with which they become familiar and make decisions about which ones to use and how to incorporate them into their curricula.

I am a storyteller and teacher-librarian. I was a public librarian for ten years prior to making the move to school library. I discovered the Internet in 1993 when a high school junior showed it to me on the computer which controlled our school’s satellite dish.

I began this journey with a 300 baud modem and a belief that curiosity and the availability of information would make a huge difference for my high school students.

Siona Murray

Siona Murray, North Wales, UK, Further Education, Library 2.0

A library school graduate working in FE for two years, I wanted to try and open another channel of communication in the college between the library and the students. The Reader Development Group in the library has been working hard to challenge student perceptions and become a more inclusive environment.

Teaching staff have embraced new technology through Moodle and the blog itself, and are now regular contributors and commentators. This also helps to validate the content of the subject posts. We are now hoping to encourage more student interaction and contributions to make the blog even more relevant to their learning experience at the college.

LibeRaCe's Library Blog
Started in September 2007, the library blog team (just me!) aims to update the site daily with news, stock reviews, cross college info, links to useful peer reviewed resources, create subject specific posts, highlight free educational sites and generally try to be a one stop shop for staff, students and visitors basic information needs.

We also answer information questions sent to the blog by our students and present information that can be accessed by students with differing levels of ICT skills.

Jennifer Lubke

Jennifer Lubke

Jennifer Lubke, East Tennessee, USA, Secondary, Language Arts

I am a secondary language arts teacher/learner with 11 years classroom experience. I am currently pursuing a graduate degree in instructional technology at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and am most passionate about the field of media education, especially understanding how adolescents use media outside the confines of the traditional classroom.

How might educators tap into this in ways that add relevance and rigor to our course content and, at the same time, teach young people to engage more critically and responsibly with all forms of new and electronic media? The current focus of my graduate work is the use of web-based tools and applications in building virtual learning communities to support the mentoring and induction of new and novice teachers.
