With a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in Agricultural Communication and minors in Communication Studies and International Studies, Dr. Mason's journey in education has truly been an interdisciplinary approach. She completed her Master’s degree in Communication Studies from Ball State University in 2003 and graduated with her Ed.D in Adult, Higher, and Community Education with a Cognate in Communication Studies in 2007.

Dr. Helvie-Mason’s research involves the understanding of education as a culture and communication as an avenue to matriculating successfully through that culture. She explores technology and instruction through a communicative lens. Her work has emphasized the marginalized voices within education, including female faculty members, minorities, and inmates. As she teaches communication courses in public speaking, advanced public speaking and debate and argumentation, Dr. Helvie-Mason utilizes a reflective pedagogy which gives the students opportunities to shape and direct their learning experiences.

Shelley Pike is an Intermediate Mathematics Coach with the Greater Essex County District School Board. She works in a pairs coaching team with Andrea Lewis-Longmuir, collaborating with grade 7 and 8 teachers at ten local schools. Their roles are part of the Math Gains initiative in Leading Math Success.

Shelley has 9 years of teaching experience, the past three in Literacy and Numeracy Coaching. She is also a sessional instructor at the University of Windsor, teaching Integration of Information and Computer Technology in the Classroom. She is currently working on her Master’s of Educational Technology at the University of British Columbia.

Leo’s experience spans the three domains of learning, media and industry. Leo was founder and CEO of AV Edge a learning media production company that specialised in educational television and multimedia. He has produced and directed numerous broadcast educational television programmes including five series on adult literacy.

AV Edge was acquired by ThirdForce Ireland’s largest e-learning company. Leo subsequently worked as a senior manager for ThirdForce overseeing the development of a new basic skills division. Leo joined National College of Ireland in January 2007 as Director of Teaching and Learning.
