My title at my Elementary school is Technology Learning Partner. I am always looking for ways to support technology use for teachers and students. To me the most important thing technology can do is to open a window to the world. I think this looks like a pretty cool window!

I have been in the information technology field for over 20 years, working at a senior management level for more than half of that time. I have been an avid user of Internet technologies for many of those years, and last year I began working for an institution of higher education, where I focused increasing attention on instructional uses of current and emerging Internet technologies.

There is so much that can be done to engage students with these evolving technologies. I also feel strongly that educators should strive to be aware of these technologies, and to provide students with insight into them.

Emerging Internet Technologies for Education
At EmergingEdTech.com, my mission is to inform educators about the expanding variety of exciting no cost or low cost web-based tools that are being used in instructional environments to better engage students, and to enrich the learning process.

Not only can these applications enable instructors to make learning more engaging and fun, but we also help students to be better prepared for the business world by introducing them to these innovative (yet at the same time, increasingly commonplace) technologies.

Each week I research a relevant topic and provide information, insight, and opinion. Please stop by and check out a topic of interest today!

Tim Wicks

Tim Wicks

Tim Wicks, Australia, All Sectors, Education, Personal Development

Living in Darwin Australia is fantastic. I love the tropics, and the diversity of the city’s population makes for great food and interesting people. Darwin is a pretty small place with maybe 120,000 people living here.

We are also a 3 or 4 day drive from the main Australian capital cities, so at times I experience isolation in regard to conversations with people that are passionate about education and self development.

I currently work as a Senior Teacher in a Special School for High School students, and run Time To Shine. This makes for a hectic schedule, as I have 2 young kids that I love to spend time with as well.

Kate Klingensmith

Kate Klingensmith

Kate Klingensmith, USA, K-12

My brief, yet incredible, experience in the classroom ended after I resigned from teaching after 4 years. I had been thinking that I could possibly make more of a change from the innovation side of education, rather than in the classroom. I taught Biology, Physics and Anatomy at an incredible charter school called YES, in Houston, before working for an education startup in San Francisco called Inigral, Inc.

I have a degree in Brain and Cognitive Science from MIT (’02), with a strong interest in learning theory and cognitive architecture, and I’m hoping to apply what I’ve learned over the past 10 years to figuring some things out. So far, the most important lesson that I can share is that social networking can play a huge role in education by allowing both teachers and students to build their own Personal Learning Network.

We are social animals and we thrive through interaction with others - I'm hoping that K-12 teachers everywhere will jump on board with this idea, and their students will ultimately see greater progress and success.

Intended to provide thoughts, resources, and advice to educators, my blog focuses on current best-practices, education-in-politics, pedagogy, and - most importantly - web 2.0 in the classroom.
